Grand Prairie, TX - The Grand Prairie Police Department is currently investigating two separate fatal traffic collisions that occurred on Sunday, June 18, 2023, along the stretch of East IH-30. The accidents, which claimed the lives of two individuals, have left the community in shock and raised concerns about road safety in the area.
The first incident took place in the 3500 block of E IH-30 at approximately 1:55 a.m. According to authorities, a Hyundai passenger car traveling westbound on IH-30 collided with the rear end of a car-hauler trailer that was also moving in the same direction. Tragically, the driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, there were no other reported injuries. While the investigation is ongoing, traffic investigators have not ruled out excessive speed as a potential contributing factor. The identity of the deceased will be disclosed by the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office once the next of kin has been notified. At this time, no criminal charges are expected to be filed.
Shortly after, at approximately 2:50 a.m., another fatal collision occurred on the 4700 block of E IH-30. A Ford pickup truck traveling westbound failed to maintain control of its speed and collided with slow-moving traffic ahead, triggering a chain reaction crash. As a result of the collision, a passenger from one of the struck vehicles was rushed to a local hospital, where they were sadly pronounced dead. Additionally, two other occupants sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Similar to the previous incident, the identity of the deceased in this collision will be released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office once the next of kin has been notified. The Grand Prairie Police Department is actively investigating this incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
These tragic collisions have underscored the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to exercise caution while on the highways. The Grand Prairie Police Department urges all motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and exercise responsible driving habits to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
