We have an update regarding an incident that occurred this morning at Arlington Memorial Hospital (AMH).
At 8:55 am, we were notified by staff at AMH that a woman entered their Emergency Room lobby, displayed a handgun, and began making suicidal comments. A security employee at the hospital confronted her and told her she needed to leave. The woman then exited the building and left the hospital property before Arlington PD officers arrived on scene.
No shots were fired, and there were no reports of any injuries.
Once investigators were able to identify the woman, we began searching for her and pushed out a bulletin to our regional law enforcement partners. This afternoon, the Denton County Sheriff’s Office notified us their deputies located her in their jurisdiction.
We can confirm the woman is now deceased.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding her death. Out of respect for that investigation, we will not be releasing the woman’s name at this time. Any further inquiries should be directed to the Denton County Sheriff’s Office.
I'm wondering why AMH didn't attempt to assist her.......
It's really sad that rather than removing the woman from the hospital, security didn't take her gun away from her and then hold her for police. It seems as though she was seeking help, at a hospital, rather than being made to leave. Now she's dead, likely self-inflicted since she was in possession of a gun.
