Officer-Involved Shooting in Grand Prairie: Armed Suspect Killed During Family Violence Response
Today at approximately 7:10 PM, the Grand Prairie Police Department responded to a family violence call with an assault in progress in the 1200 block of Tripoli Trail. Upon arrival, the victim was able to escape the residence through a window where officers met her and moved her to a safe location.
While speaking with the victim, the suspect exited the residence, armed with a handgun, and began walking towards the officers and the victim while pointing the firearm at them. Fearing for their lives, and the life of the victim, a single officer fired their duty weapon striking the suspect. Officers rendered first aid to the suspect who succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The suspect’s identity, an adult female, will be released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office once next of kin have been notified.
Per departmental policy, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Officer‐Involved Shooting Team responded to the scene and is conducting an independent investigation. The Grand Prairie Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards will be conducting a concurrent administrative investigation.
The officer has been placed on routine administrative leave.
