GRAND PRAIRIE, TX - A fatal traffic collision occurred on Sunday, April 9, 2023, in the 500 block of W IH-20 eastbound, resulting in two deaths and the arrest of a 22-year-old driver, according to the Grand Prairie Police Department.
The incident took place at approximately 5:20 p.m. when a Chrysler passenger car, driven by William Thompson, was traveling east on IH-20. Thompson reportedly lost control of the vehicle and sideswiped a Mercedes passenger car, causing it to collide with a stranded Chevy passenger car on the right shoulder.
A male passenger in the Chevy was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other passengers were transported to a local hospital. One of the injured passengers later succumbed to their injuries, while the third remains in critical condition.
Witnesses reported that Thompson was driving at a high rate of speed and in a reckless manner prior to the collision. He was arrested at the scene and is currently being held in the Grand Prairie Detention Center, with no bond set at this time. Thompson faces two counts of Manslaughter and one count of Aggravated Assault.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner will identify the deceased once the next of kin have been notified. The collision remains under investigation by the Grand Prairie Police Department.
What drives me insane is that the person who causes such accidents hardly ever have a scratch most times. Praying for all families affected. A senseless act can cause so much pain.
